Plastic Pipe Manufacturers Accelerate Production Ahead of Chinese New Year to Avert Supply Crunch
As the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, major plastic pipe producers across China are ramping up manufacturing lines to fulfill a surge in orders and build inventory against an anticipated two- to three-week logistics shutdown.
Industry sources indicate that construction firms and infrastructure projects are front-loading procurement to avoid delivery delays, while raw material suppliers report stockpiling polyethylene and PVC resin at pre-holiday highs. “We are running our extrusion plants at near full capacity and have added night shifts to clear backlog,” said a production manager at a leading Zhejiang-based pipe company. “After the holiday, it usually takes another week for migrant workers to return, so this buffer is critical.”
The production push comes amid sustained demand from ongoing water conservancy projects and real estate completion works. However, logistics costs have edged up 15% on average as freight companies apply holiday surcharges. Smaller downstream distributors are particularly anxious, with some placing orders three weeks earlier than usual.
Analysts expect plastic pipe shipments to peak in the final 10 days before the holiday, after which market activity will remain subdued until late February.
